Education
He earned his MBBS degree from Dhaka Medical College in 1979 (K-31). He obtained a Fellowship in General Surgery (FCPS) from Bangladesh College of Physicians & Surgeons in 1988. Between 1992 and 1994, he was trained in Urology at the Institute of Urology & Nephrology, University College London under the WHO Fellowship Programme. During this time, he surpassed a double fellowship FRCS (Glasg.) from the Royal College of Surgeons & Physicians of Glasgow and FRCS (Edin.) from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 1993. In 1994, he obtained a Diploma in Urology from the University College London, UK. He has also received Post-Fellowship training in Urology from Austria, Switzerland, Germany & India.

Career
Prof. Harun joined the Bangladesh Armed Forces on 14th July, 1980. He has served a broad range of positions for the Armed Forces .Lastly, he served as the Consultant Surgeon General and Chief Urologist of Bangladesh Armed Forces and finally retired on January 2016. He is serving as Principal & Professor of Urology, Holy Family Red Crescent Medical College.

Medical Career
Prof. Harun has especial interest in Nephron – Sparing Surgery, Reconstructive Urology, Microsurgery in Male Infertility, Endourology, Female Urology, Combat Surgery and Disaster Medicine. He has been teaching both Under Graduate & Post Graduate levels and has significant experience as an examiner of Bangladesh College of Physicians & Surgeons (BCPS) & Bangabandhu Seikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU).

Awards
Asir Memorial Gold Medal 2015 by The Society of Surgeons of Bangladesh (SSOB) at 13thSAARC International Surgical Congress & SAARC Surgical Congress for his contribution in the field of Surgery.

Awarded “Professor Idris Lasker Gold Medal 2019” by The Bangladesh Association of Urological Surgeons (BAUS) at 13th BAUS for contribution in the field of Nephron Sparing Surgery (NSS) in Bangladesh.

Anonnya Bijoy Award-2015, Justice Syed Mahbub Morshed Award-2015, Danbeer Hazi Muhammad Muhshin Award-2015 and Sher-e-Bangla Gold Medal-2016.
